emplement!

Empowering regions to cooperatively, synergistically and practically implement sustainability and resilience strategies while considering the urban-rural nexus.

Project description

emplement!

emplement! is a joint R&D project within the framework of the “Sustainable Development of Urban Regions” programme, funded by the BMBF and supported by the DLR project management agency. After a 6-month preparatory phase and an 18-month definition phase, the project is now in its 4-year R&D phase (01.06.2021-31.05.2025). The project is coordinated by AT-Verband.

Rapid urbanisation presents cities and their surrounding areas with major challenges – not only due to increasing resource consumption and its consequences, but also because of climate change and the associated threats. Strategies and plans addressing these challenges need to be developed and practically implemented.

The objective of emplement! is to develop transferable instruments and the capacities required to enable actors in the Vietnamese city of Da Nang and the neighbouring province of Quang Nam to translate sustainability and resilience strategies into practical and synergistic measures.

The tools are developed on the system level, the technology level and the implementation level, combining research, capacity development and practical showcases.

Highlights

  • System level: strategies, plans and methods for data generation.
  • Technology level: suitable technologies and support for decision-making.
  • Implementation level: identification of obstacles, showcases and research for implementation.
